I thoroughly enjoyed being able to witness the journey and struggles between the personalities of Vint's and Cilla's as they travel the path of their new marital relationship. With a successful solved case completed by Cilla, Cilla and Vint have embarked into their new private eye detective business with being hired by the beautiful, highly respected, and wealthy client, Stacia. Vint has left his pastoral position from the small Pennsylvania congregation and in now embarked to his and Cilla's honeymoon/work in Lauderdale, Florida.The complexity of two different people who experiences in life is so different with very different disposition. Cilla who suffered a very dysfunctional childhood has a tendency to react impulsively at times and making decisions independent of husband which affects both of them which causes problems in their relationship. But Vint's still being the good minister is strong enough to forgive and to move forward understanding nursing a bruised ego is not worth the effort. How many husbands would be willing to share their honeymoon with their wife's work. There's humor with Vint's effort to learn how to be a good detective learning from his wife and taking the correspondence course his wife took to becoming a detective.
Vint who's life plan to being a pastor is learning to adjust any possible purist tendency in coming to know his free thinking wife and at the same time learning in doing so, he does not compromise his faith.
The case involves Stacia's missing son which appears to be a suicide. In the midst of Stacia's grief, Stacia has become a perfect mother type for Cilla. Stacia has the perfect looks, the perfect mannerism and intelligence, and wealth which seems to go beyond boundaries. The nearly seventy five year old, lean Stacia compares herself to the much younger Cilla by explaining to Cilla since Cilla does not have the same lean body type that runs in Stacia family, that even though Cilla has a "fine figure", she needs to watch it so "that it doesn't tend toward fat." How many of us would love to be told that by a perfect body type older woman. There you have a perfect woman (devoted mother) who's son rebels against her and is now presumed dead by the police detectives makes you hope that somehow this story will turn out right. But no matter Cilla will get to the bottom of it.
And this is where Cilla has become a thorn to the seasoned and much experienced police detectives. Cilla who has worked one other case and solved it is ruffling up the feathers in the police department by her direct and persistent questioning. Cilla comes up with different schemes for her information search which places her in threatening situations making it difficult at time for Vint to rescue her.
And now we have a vigilante in play who is refer as the Arbiter. He's knocking off some of the seedy people showing no mercy. This mysterious person will send chills up your back in the way he takes revenge on the illegal drug profiteers. As bad as these guys are, they are no match to the Arbiter.
Are there any connections between Cilla's case and the Arbiter? What is Stacia keeping from Cilla? And can Vint and Cilla work out their trials in their new marriage. The book has be read from beginning to end with the twist, surprises, and enjoyment throughout and meeting so many interesting characters along the way. This book does not disappoint us who became fans of Cilla and Vint in "The Pastor and the Private Eye."

Mr. Pine has done it yet again with the second Cilla book. An assignment for a new client brings PI Cilla and her husband Vint into conflict with a vigilante calling himself The Arbiter, who is waging a one-man war against drug dealers and those helping them. This character is intriguing as an individual as well as a challenge to both Cilla and to the official police. A good book all around.
